This week we are examining a complicated legal and spiritual vision for what Shlemut (Wholeness) could look like for the Israelites when they begin to make a nation and society for themselves. In this week’s parasha, Mishpatim (Laws/Judgments), we have to ask: Is Shlemut (Wholeness) really possible, even in a “Divine Text” when humans are still caught within the confines existing, limited systems? Let’s learn from the wisdom of our tradition, and its blindspots.
